200MP Samsung ISOCELL HP1 phone camera sensor revealed
Samsung has set new records with the reveal of the ISOCELL HP1 smartphone camera sensor which has a resolution of 200MP.
Like most other high-resolution sensors, this one uses pixel binning as well. Interestingly it can achieve different outputs of 12.5MP and 50MP thanks to what Samsung calls ‘ChamaleonCell’.
The ISOCELL HP1 Will decide its binned resolution based on the available light. It will output 12.5MP images via 4-by-4 pixel binning in low light with a large 2.56μm pixel pitch. But, the resolution will go up to 50MP via 2-by-2 binning in good light.
The Samsung HP1 can capture video at a maximum resolution of 8K@30fps at 50MP.
This new 200MP sensor might be the headline feature of the upcoming Galaxy S22 Ultra in early 2022. However, let’s hope it is not plagued by auto-focusing issues that the ISOCELL HMX had on the S20 Ultra.
