2022 Audi RS3 revealed with Drift mode
Based on the new Audi A3, the 2022 Audi RS3 hatchback and sedan are official with a new all-wheel-drive system that gets a dedicated ‘Drift’ mode.
Building on Audi’s latest RS design language, the 2022 RS3 gets blacked-out front elements, including the logo, which gives it an aggressive stance. The front-wheel track is 33mm wider when compared to the A3.
It is powered by the 2.5-litre, 5-cylinder turbo petrol as before. On this new version, this motor generates a healthy 394bhp and 500Nm.The claimed 0-100km/h sprint time is just 3.8 seconds.
Power is fed to all the four wheels of the Audi RS3 via a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic transmission. The Quattro AWD system now gets an ‘RS Torque Splitter’ rear differential which can vary the amount of torque sent to each wheel.
In its new Drift mode, the differential can send 100% of rear-axle torque to the outside wheel. This, in turn, will break traction to initiate a controlled slide.
Other goodies on the 2022 Audi RS3 include an optional sports suspension with adaptive damping, standard 19-inch wheels, a flat-bottomed RS steering wheel with paddle shifters, a head-up display, et al.
In India, we already patiently await the launch of the standard next-generation Audi A3. So, this RS3 coming to our shoes anytime soon is pretty unlikely.
