China’s Great Wall Motors registers Indian subsidiary
- Great Wall Motors, one of China’s largest carmakers, has registered its Indian subsidiary, which indicates its imminent arrival in the country.
- Great Wall owns multiple car brands, and the company has chosen to bring Haval to India, thereby forming Haval Motor India. For those unaware, Haval is Great Wall’s SUV-only brand.
- A media report claims that the company has written to the Prime Minister’s Office for an appointment for its chairman Wei Jianjun with Narendra Modi. An official statement on the brand’s India plans will be revealed post this meeting.
- Great Wall Motors is said to be planning to invest around Rs 7,000 crore in India. The company is looking for manufacturing sites in multiple states which include Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh.
