Ertiga scores 3 stars, Redigo 1 star in new Global NCAP tests
- Global NCAP, under its ‘Safer Cars for India’ initiative, has crash-tested 4 relatively new cars to be sold in India – Maruti Ertiga, Maruti WagonR, Hyundai Santro and Datsun Redigo.
- Ertiga managed to get the highest rating – 3 stars (out of 5), which is underwhelming, to begin with. The MPV’s body shell integrity score fell into the ‘unstable’ category. Another new Maruti, WagonR, also attained a similar unstable rating for its body shell and its overall score was worse at 2 stars.
- The Hyundai Santro, WagonR’s direct rival in India, did not fare much better. With a similar score of 2 stars, the Santro. The base variant of the Santro that was crash tested here only comes with a driver-side airbag.
- Finally, the Redigo continued Datsun’s dismal crash test record with a score of 1 star. The body shell of this car was also unstable and its chest protection of the driver was found to be poor.
