Google buys smartwatch maker Fitbit
- Google has bought the popular American smartwatch company Fitbit for $2.1 billion.
- With this deal, Google has officially revealed that it plans to invest even more in Wear OS and introduce ‘Made by Google’ wearable devices – so, the long-rumoured Pixel Watch may finally become a reality.
- Interestingly, Fitbit, in an official press release, made it clear that it will still take health & fitness data related privacy very seriously. It also claimed that such data will not be used for Google Ads.
- With this acquisition, the Google Fit app could be better integrated with the Wear OS ecosystem, potentially helping Google to have a stronger hold in the smart wearable market.
