Google Pixel 4, Pixel 4 XL official; won’t launch in India
- The new Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL have been officially revealed and both phones are powered by a Snapdragon 855 SoC along with 6GB RAM and 64GB/ 128GB of non-expandable internal storage.
- The smaller phone has a 5.7-inch display while the larger one has a 6.3-inch unit. Both screens are OLED panels with 90 Hz refresh rate. Also, both phones feature a notch-less design but the upper bezel is quite thick.
- Lying inside that upper bezel is a lot of hardware. First up is its 8MP selfie camera. Then, there are a bunch of modules for the Pixel 4’s 3D face unlocking system (no fingerprint reader here) which also includes a new Soli radar system (more on this at the end of the article).
- The main rear camera of the Pixel 4/ Pixel 4XL remains unchanged – a 12MP sensor with an aperture of f/1.7. However, new software enhancements claim to drastically improve its performance. For example, the camera app can render HDR+ in real-time, and will help you adjust shadows/ highlights in the viewfinder itself! Also, Night Sight has been enhanced to make astrophotography better.
- A new addition here is the new 16MP telephoto camera with 2x optical zoom. This camera also gets OIS + EIS like the main camera. Then, Google’s Super Resolution Zoom software is claimed to extend the Pixel 4’s zooming capabilities beyond 2x.
- There is sadly no ultra-wide-angle camera here. There is a third sensor at the back but that’s a spectral + flicker sensor.
- The smaller Pixel 4 has a rather underwhelming 2,800mAh battery, while the Pixel 4 XL amps that up to 3,700mAh. Both phones support 18W fast charging and there is wireless charging onboard as well.
- The Google Pixel 4 and Pixel 4 XL will not launch in India. This is because the aforementioned Soli radar system works at 60 GHz frequency which is not currently allowed for public use in the country.
