Google Pixel 5a official with IP67 rating
The new Google Pixel 5a has been silently revealed, and, for the most part, it is just a Pixel 4a with a handful of extra features.
Another thing is that this smartphone will only be sold in the USA and Japan. So, you are out of luck here in India. It’s priced at USD 449 and will start shipping on August 26.
To summarise the new features of this phone over its predecessor, it gets a ~0.1-inch larger OLED display at 6.34-inches, a metal body construction, a larger 4,680mAh battery, an IP67 water & dust resistance, and a USD 50 price cut.
The Pixel 5a is still powered by the capable but aging Snapdragon 765G SoC and still comes with 6GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage.
Its charging speed still peaks at 18W, and just like before, the fingerprint sensor is a rear-mounted capacitive unit. The cameras don’t see an upgrade either – you get the same 12MP main + 16MP ultra-wide rear cameras and an 8MP front camera on the Pixel 5a.
While all this is fine, do note that the display refresh rate is also just 60Hz, which is disappointing for a 2021 mid-range Android phone.
