Jeep Meridian India launch in 2022
Stellaintis will launch the 7-seat Jeep Meridian in India in mid-2022 as per a new report. It will be based on the Compass.
Globally, this SUV will be sold as the Jeep Commander, but since Mahindra holds rights to this name, Jeep has recently failed for the Meridian trademark, which more or less confirms the name for the India-spec model.
Leaked images of production ready Jeep Meridian confirm that it will look quite different from the Compass with its more squared-off aesthetics. Since it will accommodate an extra row of seats, its footprint will likely be larger as well.
The SUV will likely be powered by a 2.0-litre, 4-cylinder diesel engine with its power output being in the 200bhp ballpark. This engine will be hooked up to a 48V mild-hybrid system as well.
It is worth noting that, unlike the Fortuner and Endeavour, the Jeep Meridian will be a front-wheel drive vehicle, so it will instead compete with similarly priced monocoque SUVs like the VW Tiguan AllSpace and Skoda Kodiaq.
