Kia India sells 3 lakh cars within 2 years
If you had any doubts about Kia being a smash hit in India, then there’s more news to change your mind. Kia India has sold 3 lakh cars within 2 years, making it the fastest carmaker to do so in India.
As a reminder, the Korean company’s debut model, the Kia Seltos, was launched in late August 2019. Then, 2020 saw the launch of Carnival and Sonet, which compete Kia’s current three-car portfolio in our market.
As per Kia India, the Seltos accounts for 66 percent of its overall sales, while the Sonet, launched a year later, accounts for 32 percent of the company’s overall sales.
Also, the South Korean brand has sold a total of 7310 units of the Kia Carnival MPV since its launch, which is quite a feat since it belongs to a segment of its own.
Kia India says that it is working on improving its reach from the current 300 to 360 touchpoints which will cover around 90 percent of the country’s geography, including Tier III & IV cities.
For those unaware, Kia is a part of the Hyundai Motor Group, even though both brands operate independently worldwide. So, Kia already had the advantage of sharing a lot of its components and tech with Hyundai (India’s second-largest carmaker) before entering our market.
