Mahindra XUV700 officially revealed
The long-awaited Mahindra XUV700 has finally been revealed. Its launch in India is scheduled for October 2021.
The XUV700 is effectively Mahindra’s new flagship model as the slow-selling Alturas G4 has been axed. The XUV500 will also be temporarily discontinued until 2024, which is when its new generation will be launched.
Definitely flashy and a bit overdone in typical Mahindra fashion, the 2021 XUV700 will surely appeal to Indians with its bold chrome grille, Renault Megane-inspired headlamps, and strong character lines.
Mahindra has also thrown in some pretty clever party tricks here like those Tesla-inspired pop-out door handles.
On the Inside, the XUV700 users a new era for Mahindra luxury as it gets many enticing goodies like a Mercedes-like dual 10.25-inch screen layout, built-in Amazon Alexa for voice commands, a panoramic sunroof, a custom 12-speaker sound system by Sony, auto booster headlights, dual-zone automatic climate control, etc.
Mahindra has also gone full throttle with safety equipment. This SUV will offer Advanced Driver Assistance Systems – which include Forward Collision Warning, departure warning, lane keep assist, adaptive cruise control, smart pilot assist, traffic sign recognition, and driver drowsiness detection. A total of 7 airbags will also be on offer.
Power figures on the Mahindra XUV700 are pretty robust as well. There’s a 2.0-litre turbo petrol with segment-leading 200hp/380Nm, and a 2.2-litre diesel with two states of tune – 155hp/360Nm and 185hp/420Nm.
The diesel engine gets 4 drive modes – Zip, Zap, Zoom and Custom – which can alter performance and steering response.
A 6-speed manual and a 6-speed automatic gearbox will be offered with both engines, however, the 155hp diesel will only not get the latter. An AWD option will also be on offer, however, it is not confirmed whether this will be offered at launch.
Expect the 2021 Mahindra XUV700 to be priced between Rs 17-25 lakh ex-showroom when it’s launched. It will compete with the Tata Safari, Hyundai Alcazar, and MG Hector Plus in India.
