Maruti Suzuki could offer CNG option on all small cars
- A new report by ET suggests that Maruti Suzuki, India’s largest automaker, will launch CNG variants of all its small cars very soon.
- This decision, most likely, comes after the company has allegedly decided to discontinue all diesel vehicles from its lineup starting from April 2020.
- As of now, Maruti’s CNG-powered vehicles make up for 7 per cent of the company’s overall sales. The company is reportedly in the process of raising its CNG vehicle production by 50 per cent in 2019.
- Presently, the company’s CNG portfolio includes Alto, Alto K10, WagonR, Celerio, Tour S, Eeco, and Super Carry commercial vehicle.
- In an effort to promote CNG vehicles, the Government of India plans to install 10,000 CNG new CNG stations in the next 10 years, which allegedly could save Rs 2 lakh crore in oil imports.
