Mercedes-Benz S-Class CKD launched in India
The new Merc S-Class CKD (locally-assembled) has been launched in India. The latest S-Class already went on sale in India in June this year but that was the fully imported CBU version with an inflated price tag.
S-Class CKD price in India
The assembled in India S starts at Rs 1.57 crore for the S350d diesel version and Rs 1.62 crore for the S450 petrol version. For comparison, the latter is now cheaper by a massive Rs 55 lakh versus the CBU model!
S-Class CKD features
Mercedes-Benz first introduced the new S-Class in India in a special Launch Edition specification that included numerous extra features as well as an AMG Line exterior trim for a sportier look.
The most noticeable change to this limo’s appearance is that it is now available in basic trim with more conservative front and rear bumpers. The 19-inch alloy wheels have also been given a fresh look.

Inside, the S-Class retains features such as a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster, a 12.8-inch portrait-oriented OLED touchscreen with Mercedes-Benz’ latest MBUX software, 64-color active ambient lighting, electronically adjustable front & rear seats with massage functions, and rear front airbags.
There’s also the chauffeur package, which allows passengers to recline the back seats and raise the leg rest, as well as slide the co-driver seat forward to provide extra space. Burmester 4D surround sound has been replaced with Burmester 3D surround sound on the CKD version.
The unique rear-wheel steering has also been dropped.
S-Class CKD engine & gearbox
Diesel fans will be disappointed to learn that the Locally assembled S diesel now produces 286hp and 600Nm instead of 330hp and 700Nm – the diesel model is now called the S350d, not S400d.
The in-line 6-cylinder turbocharged petrol engine, which generates 367hp and 500Nm, is identical to the imported S450. Both engines come equipped with a 9-speed automatic transmission and 4matic all-wheel drive.
