What is it?
The biggest and the most expensive OnePlus phone ever!
Design & Construction
- The OnePlus 7 Pro is B-I-G and slightly on the heavier side thanks to its 6.67-inch display. In fact, I believe that pics and videos don’t quite represent its size accurately, so, try it out in a OnePlus store to see if you’re comfortable with its bulk or not.
- The overall design & build here is quite pleasing. The screen of the phone is curved (like the Samsung S10+) and truly bezel-less which ensures that it looks quite premium.
- The rear glass panel of the phone looks quite similar to that of the standard OnePlus 7 and we wish there was a bit more differentiation here. However, you get different colours to choose from. We have got the rather plain-looking Mirror Grey colour in our studio, but the Neptune Blue option looks fantastic.
Display
- The 6.67-inch AMOLED screen comes with QHD+ resolution, HDR 10+ support, 90 Hz refresh rate, curved sides, and no notch or hole punch. So, it’s undoubtedly the star of the show here!
- Colours are punchy and the media consumption on this phone is an absolute delight. The 90 Hz refresh rate makes everything smoother too, but you have to be a gamer to really notice it during everyday usage.
- It must be noted that while a curved screen looks quite premium, it’s quite hard to maintain in the long run. Tempered screen protectors don’t really hold on to this design, and if you break the screen by chance, then a replacement will be quite expensive.
User Interface & Performance
- If you are familiar with Oxygen OS, then you know that other custom Android skins have a hard time matching its crisp performance. Based on Android 9 Pie, the software of the OnePlus 7 Pro is light, fast, and probably the quickest on any Android device as of now!
- OnePlus also has an excellent track record with updates, so you can be assured that Android and security patch updates will surely arrive on this device faster than most other phones.
- The hardware on this phone is top notch as per 2019 standards – Snapdragon 855 paired with 6GB, 8GB or 12GB of RAM. So, PUBG players need not worry about performance at all.
Cameras
- The camera setup on the OnePlus 7 Pro is what the tech community loves – a 48MP (Sony IMX586) main sensor, a 16MP ultra-wide-angle sensor and an 8MP telephoto unit. There’s also a super cool pop-up 16MP sensor for selfies. Performance, however, is a mixed bag.
- The primary rear camera takes well-detailed pics with good dynamic range in well-lit scenarios. However, it’s performance falls in low light. There’s a dedicated night mode called Nightscape, but it doesn’t do much and is no match for night modes on the Pixel 3/ P30 Pro.
- Videos from the rear main camera come to be really good and you can shoot up to 4K @ 60 fps. The stabilisation in videos in just fantastic.
- The photos taken from the secondary two cameras definitely showcase a loss in quality, but that is to be expected. Given enough light, these two cameras can take decent photos as well. Weirdly enough, you can’t shoot videos on the ultra-wide-angle camera!
- Selfies taken from the front camera are pretty average. While they definitely are better than the disappointing selfies shot by the S10+, I’ve seen many mid-range phones taking superior selfies.

Battery Life
- The 4,000 mAh battery on the OnePlus 7 Pro will provide you with only above-average battery life. The screen-on time will remain less than 5 hours in most scenarios, and if you’re a gamer, you might wanna keep the bundled charger handy.
- Talking of the bundled charger, the 30W Warp charger is this phone’s saving grace. It’s very quick and can take the phone from 0-90 per cent in just one hour.
What else?
- Because of a moving part (pop-up front camera), the OnePlus 7 Pro has no IP-certification. So, it’s best to keep it away from water.
- For a phone that costs around Rs 50,000, the lack of wireless charging is a conspicuous omission. All competing flagships have this feature.
- Apparently, the 3.5 mm headphone jack is now gone from OnePlus phones forever!
- The in-display optical fingerprint sensor on this phone is one of the fastest of its kind.
Verdict
- The OnePlus 7 Pro looks great, comes with a super-fast software, and has a fantastic display as well. Coming at under Rs 50,000, this phone is meant to be quite popular, especially among youngsters who are really fond of the OnePlus brand.
- However, in order for it to be a proper flagship, OnePlus must work on refining this phone’s inconsistent camera experience. Camera performance plays a big role in differentiating premium phones from cheaper ones!
