Skoda Slavia name official
Skoda Slavia is the official name given to the upcoming Rapid successor. It is also confirmed to be revealed in ‘Winter 2021’ which is not very far away. Its launch in India should take place in early 2022.
It must be noted that the Skoda Slavia will be positioned half a segment above the Rapid. It is rumoured to be 4,480mm long with a wheelbase of 2,651mm, the longest in the C-segment.
It will be the first sedan to be based on the MQB IN A0 platform, which also underpins the Skoda Kushaq and Volkswagen Taigun. In fact, another C-sedan, said to be named Volkswagen Virtus, would also launch in India next year which will be the sister model of the Slavia.
Skoda Slavia engine & gearbox (expected)
A choice of two TSI turbo-petrol engines will power this sedan. The first is a 115hp, 1.0-litre, three-cylinder engine with a 6-speed manual or torque converter automatic transmission. The second option is a 1.5-litre, four-cylinder TSI engine with 150 horsepower and a DCT automatic transmission.
Skoda Slavia features (expected)
While we do not know much about its equipment as of now, we’ll make a guess based on what the Kushaq gets.
A touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto & Apple CarPlay support, ‘My Skoda’ connected car tech, wireless charging, a digital instrument cluster, leatherette upholstery, auto headlamps, auto wipers, ventilated seats, and a premium sound system are all expected to be included in the new Slavia.
Skoda Slavia rivals
This car, along with the Volkswagen Virtus, will bring the much-required breath of fresh air to the dying C-sedan segment. It will compete with Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Suzuki Ciaz and the upcoming Toyota Belta.
However, given its size, power and equipment, the Slavia should cost more than the aforementioned sedans.
