Skoda Slavia teased; unveil in late 2021
The upcoming Skoda Slavia sedan has been officially teased via the means of a camouflaged sketch. The reveal of this car will take place later this year with sales commencing in early 2022.
The Skoda Slavia (name speculated) will be an indirect replacement for the aging Skoda Rapid. We can expect it to carry a starting ex-showroom price of well over Rs 10 lakh and go all the way up to Rs 17 lakh for the top-end variant.
Dimensionally, the Slavia will be larger than the Rapid, possibly even larger than the 5th-gen Honda City and Hyundai Verna, but the Rapid will anyway be discontinued when the Slavia launches.
Some aesthetic elements of the sedan in the teaser do have a resemblance with the European Rapid (completely different from the Indian Rapid), but there seem to be enough new and distinctive design elements here as well.
The sedan will be the third product to be based on Volkswagen Group’s made for India MQB A0 IN platform after the Kushaq and the soon-to-be-launched VW Taigun.
In fact, you can expect the same 1.0-litre and 1.5-litre TSI turbo petrol engines to power this sedan as well. As with other new Volkswagen Group cars, there will be no diesel engine on offer.
After the Skoda Slavia launches in India next year, we can expect VW to follow with its sister model which will replace the Vento. It is expected to be called the VW Virtus and will share its mechanicals with the Kushaq-Taigun-Slavia trio.
