Tata Altroz DCT auto launched in India
Tata Motors has finally released the much-anticipated Altroz DCT automatic in India.
For more than two years, the Altroz has only been available with a manual transmission. Tata has now finally launched an automatic transmission on the Altroz with the 1.2-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine. The gearbox in question is a 6-speed dual-clutch (wet) unit.
The DCT unit, according to Tata, was designed particularly for Indian climatic and road conditions, using active cooling technology and machine learning. The gearbox on the Altroz DCT, for example, has shift-by-wire technology.
It is 20kg heavier than the manual models. There are no paddle shifters as on the Hyundai i20 N Line, although the gear lever does include a manual mode.
According to rumours, the DCT option was originally supposed to debut with the Altroz’s more powerful 110hp 1.2-litre turbo-petrol engine. Tata Motors even tested the turbo-DCT prototype, however, the turbo-DCT was reportedly proving to be too costly.
This new automatic model is available in XM+, XT, XZ, XZ(O), and XZ+ models. Each of these versions’ equipment lists is identical to their manual equivalents.

The Altroz DCT also has a new safety feature dubbed auto park lock, which enters park mode automatically even if the driver forgets to do so while departing the vehicle.
Meanwhile, the Altroz DCT Dark Edition (available on the XT and XZ+) features blacked-out wheels, darker chrome all around, and an all-black interior decor.
