Tata Punch is the production-spec HBX micro SUV
Say hello to the hilariously named Tata Punch. It is the production version of the HBX concept which was revealed at Auto Expo 2020.
Tata has revealed the name and front design of the car by releasing a single official image of this micro SUV. Think of this as a rival to the flop Mahindra KUV100. But, this segment still has potential since the Hyundai Casper is coming soon as well.
Design-wise, the 2021 Tata Punch stays true to the company’s bigger SUVs – Nexon and Harrier. It also sports the characteristic ‘Humanity Line’ grille.
However, since this thing is tiny, it certainly does not look as proportionate as its bigger siblings and some awkwardness is unignorable.
At the side, you get thick lower plastic cladding, almost like that on the Renault Kwid. You also get C-pillar mounted rear door handles.
The rear and the interior of the Tata Punch have not been revealed as of now. However, since Tata Motors is already on the teaser game now, it should be revealed soon as well.
Rumours suggest that this micro SUV will be powered by Tata’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder petrol engine in two states of tune. The lower tune would be the naturally aspirated version with 83hp, while there will also be a higher, turbocharged version with 108hp.
The good news is that Punch shares its ALFA architecture with Altroz, so expect really solid crash test ratings on this one.
Tata will soon reveal the prices of this vehicle. Its launch should not be too far away either.
