Tata Tiago CNG, Tigor CNG launched in India
Tata Motors has released prices for the new Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG. The former begins at Rs 6.09 lakh, while the latter starts at Rs 7.69 lakh (both ex-showroom). The Tiago CNG is available in four trims – XE, XM, XT, and XZ+ while the Tigor CNG is offered in two trims – XZ and XZ+.
Tata’s 1.2-litre, three-cylinder Revotron petrol engine powers both the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG under the hood. This engine generates 86hp and 113Nm of peak torque in petrol form, but only 73hp and 95Nm of peak torque in CNG form. That implies the petrol and CNG versions of the Tiago and Tigor have a 13hp and 18Nm difference, respectively.
Moreover, despite its heavier weight (by approximately 100kg), the Tiago has a 168mm ground clearance, compared to 165mm for the Tigor.
Only a 5-speed manual transmission is available on both versions. Notably, the Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG can be started in CNG mode right away, a feature that none of its competitors provides. Tata has yet to reveal the Tiago and Tigor CNG’s stated fuel economy.
There are no design differences between the CNG-powered models when compared to the standard petrol-powered versions, except for the ‘i-CNG’ emblem at the rear.
The top-spec CNG trims come with features like 14-inch alloy wheels, projector headlamps with LED DRLS, a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, eight-speaker Harman audio system, automatic climate control, electrically adjustable and foldable wing mirrors, and more.
Dual airbags, anti-lock brakes, a rear parking camera and sensors, and corner stability control are all standard safety equipment. The Tiago CNG and Tigor CNG, in particular, are the only Global NCAP 4-star certified CNG cars now available in the nation.
Hyundai Santro CNG, Maruti Wagon R CNG, and the recently released Celerio CNG will all compete against the Tata Tiago CNG. On the other hand, the Tigor CNG will compete with the Hyundai Aura CNG.
