Toyota Yaris axed
The Toyota Yaris, which has been a sales disaster since its launch in mid-2018, has finally been discontinued in India.
This C-segment sedan was Toyota’s answer to the Honda City, Hyundai Verna, Maruti Ciaz, and Skoda Rapid, however, it never really clicked. The Yaris was already an aging product when launched in India, as this generation of the car went on sale globally in 2013.
Toyota has promised all existing Yaris owners that the car’s spare parts will be available for at least the next ten years.
However, if you are expecting something exciting from Toyota next, then be prepared to be mad. The Yaris will most likely be replaced by the Toyota Belta, a re-badged Maruti Ciaz. You can see the Belta’s spy image here.
The Ciaz-based Belta will bring absolutely zero excitement to the C-sedan segment which is already shrinking due to small SUVs. To make matters worse, the Ciaz itself is a 7-year-old model that’s in desperate need of replacement.
Anyway, the only way to buy a real Toyota in India now is to stretch your budget for an Innova. Below that, you’ll only find re-badged Maruti Suzuki models.
