WhatsApp Pay, Disappearing Messages launched in India
WhatsApp Pay
- Made in partnership with the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) and using the Unified Payment Interface (UPI) WhatsApp Pay is a real-time payment system which supports over 160 banks in India.
- Like every other UPI-based app, WhatsApp Pay will also need the user to enter their UPI Pin for every payment. Payments can also be sent and received to/via other UPI apps.
- To use the payments feature, the user must have a bank account and debit card in India.
- WhatsApp Payments is now rolling on both Android and iOS. Users will need to update to the latest version of the app in other to use this new feature.
WhatsApp Disappearing Messages
- The new Disappearing Messages allows a message to self-destruct itself after 7 days. As of now, this duration cannot be changed.
- It feature must be enabled separately for each chat window. It can be accessed by clicking the name of the individual contact or the group on WhatsApp. These messages have their own dedicated window which can be turned off.
- It must be noted that users can still copy the text or take screenshots of these disappearing messages within the 7-day time frame.
- On the other hand, competing app Telegram allows users to decide the message’s disappearing duration, while Snapchat Snaps disappear after they’ve been opened.
