YouTube Vanced is going away
YouTube Vanced has been the most-loved third party Youtube app for quite some time now, but sadly, it is going away!
The project’s creators announced the app’s demise on Sunday via the app’s official Telegram channel and on the Vanced Twitter account.
It will no longer be updated, but you may still download the most recent version. However, act quickly – the download URLs will expire shortly.
There was no specific explanation offered for its demise, so we can only surmise — but it’s likely because Google’s legal department took note of YouTube Vanced.
Recently, the tech giant has begun cracking down on unlicensed clients, including Groovy and Rythm, two popular Discord bots for listening to music on a server. These have been removed following YouTube’s cease and desist letters to the creators.
So, it’s not difficult to picture something similar happening with Vanced as well.
Vanced includes features like ad blocking and background playback without charging users like YouTube’s Premium tier does. This app has also been a part of our best Android apps list which you can read here.
It gained even more traction by restoring dislike numbers in videos shortly after Google deleted them from their official app.
Recently, the app had also changed its name to just “Vanced,” and it erased most references to YouTube from its website — apparently in an effort to avoid legal trouble with Google.
Vanced was never the sole YouTube alternative. Among the alternatives is the open-source NewPipe, which is lighter than the official app.
However, YouTube Vanced had a sizable user base, and it mimicked the official app so well that its demise will be mourned by many worldwide!
